The primary purpose of the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (J.A.T.C.) and staff of the Training Department is to provide continuing education and training to Local 520 Journeypersons, Apprentices, and Referrals.
The certification classes and in-seat training provide Local 520 Operators with certifications required to meet construction regulations and practical experience that allows them to remain highly skilled in the craft.
The J.A.T.C. and staff of the Training Department also oversee the Local 520 Apprenticeship Program.
This program is an excellent tool for training new individuals in the craft.
The Apprenticeship Program provides continued growth of the Local by supplying the Local with new qualified and skilled Operators.
The Training Department also reaches out to today's youth by attending Construction Expositions to educate the area's 8th graders on the different crafts that are available and what the students should take in high school to improve their application to the Apprenticeship Program.
In addition, the Training Department and J.A.T.C. work with signatory contractors in determining the types of training the industry needs, capital development board certification, and apprentice field relations.
